The only water which I hope is spring is Bonafont natural water and it’s the only one I actually like. Most of them are purified and I don’t like them.
This one comes in small, medium, 2 L, 4 L and the HUGE gallons you need a water dispenser for.
- “agua purificada” .. a place where you can bring your own 5-gallon bottle and it’s very cheap too. 18 or 35 pesos for a 5 gallon container. Here’s one of their sites.
- Here is what an expat said… “here in Ensenada there are lots of places that sell filtered/purified water for drinking/cooking… I am sure now that the reason is because the tap water is polluted and not treated…. so, there are “water shop” (???) places that only sell water and Ice… and they have 2 kinds of these purified water… one is just purified, or filtered (probably coming from the ground?? I am not sure… I will try to find out more later) .. and they also have the ALKALINE water, which goes through a deeper purification and has a higher PH… around 9.5 from what it’s shown on their table… so… for the 5-Gallon jug, we can chose which one we want: the one that is just purified water (the basic one) which costs like 18 pesos, and the Alkaline one (PH9.5) costs $30-35 pesos per 5-gallon, depending on where we go… we bring our own jugs and they sterilize it, clean it very well before they fill it up with the water… I will take some pictures of this place next time we go there and I will share with you all, okay? Hope I was more clear now? “
- Cristal which was recommended to me both by an expat and Mexican is ok, but I can’t stand it. If I had nothing else I’d drink it, but it’s not good at all in my opinion.
- I did buy this Vitawa brand which wasn’t bad, but expensive. I can get the Banafont brand in a 4 L bottle for 29 pesos. This Vitawa water is around 20 pesos just for this small size.
- A site for delivering what I assume is purified (not spring) water. http://www.superaqua2000.com.mx/
- A site that sells water purification equipment in Mexico. I never drink RO water (reverse osmosis) because I can’t stand what it does to my mouth, but many others love it. I assume it also depends on the company who manufactures it, but when I was in Toronto back in 2004, I taste tested at least 2-3 companies at a trade show and they all did the same thing to me. My palette is very pronounced, so I can taste the difference in water. Anyone who says water has no taste doesn’t know what they are talking about or just has a poor sense of taste. I’m sure there are more, but I kept getting results from other countries, so I’ll let you do the rest of the legwork. I haven’t tried either of these.
- A counter top water purifier and no, I haven’t tried it yet. Link.
- Some people go to springs (yes, actual springs) and fill up their bottles once or twice a week. I recommend you get that water tested FIRST before assuming it’s clean just because it’s am out of the way spring.
- Until I get settled and buy a Soda Stream unit to make my own soda water, this is the carbonated spring water I buy. It’s good. Topo Chico.
